united utilities-water costs?

as a senior single person my water bill I BELIEVE IS EXCESSIVE, on the breakdown they site a standing charge of £60 .this they claim is for "sending me the bill and admin costs". I do not live in a large house but in a one bedroomed flat,I live alone, when I enquired about a water merer ,they said i did not use enough, they charge me more for sewage than for the actual water, they charge a family of five the same this is unfair,I do not have a garden,no water lands on my roof cos I do not have one living on the ground floor of a large block of mixed flats is there no rebate system?

The whole system of water charges is an utter mess.

It really needs a good, radical overhaul.

It is not everybody that can have water meters installed in their properties & often they can end up costing a single person even more than the fixed charges. The sewage charges are a joke.

Where I live - the water supply charges are billed by one company & yet another nearby water company is responsible for the sewage charges. They are both billed on the same account from the same supplier. But the water supplier has to pay the sewage water company the costs of all that & for collecting it too.

It really needs simplyifing & some other system put in it*s place. As far as I am aware there is no rebate syetem for water charges, although some companies might offer reductions to some disabled people who need to use a lot of water for hygeine purposes, BUT that would depend on the suppliers terms & also on medical certificates from doctors & so on. Again, a very tricky & difficult thing ro get, if it's available at all.

A lot of people have similar problems to this.

That is the way it is all over England. In Cornwall we pay the highest price than anyone else. It is the same for 6 people as 1. Pressurise them for a water meter, or contact OFWAT. details online.

Like other utility companies they are just profiteering crooks. Unfortunately. Ofwat and other regulatory bodies are toothless and spineless.
