How to feed many for cheap?

I need to feed about 12 people in a week or so, it's for my 40th birthday get together. I'm on a serious budget so I was wondering if anyone had cheap and easy ideas. I thought about making strombolis, or maybe just tacos...but want to do something different. I'm not into cooking fancy meals, this is just a simple get together with family. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance :)

Update:

Actually, spaghetti does sound like a great idea, thanks.

Beef Strognoff can be made with elbow or shell pasta. Take a can of gravy or package gravy and add ground beef or turkey and mix it together with some sour cream. Add it to the pasta unless you buy a box of Hamburger Helper. Most 99 cent stores will have food under a $1 and you can make many things with it. You can make some jello sqares or use a cookie cutter and cut out your jello and add cool whip. You can make Lasagna using elbow macaroni pasta and add a can of spaghetti sauce with mushrooms or your choice of ingredients and add some grated cheese. You can take some biscuit mix and make cheese rolls with it. Just add some grated cheese with it. Make small dishes of 3 different items. Make an appetizer, entree and dessert with some lemonade.

I agree, spaghetti is not a lot. You need 4 oz of dry pasta per person. I am not sure where you are but here Hunts has sauce in a can. It is spaghetting sauce not tomato sauce. It comes in large cans and I would think you would only need 3 for that many people. I just saw it for a 1$ a can. Fry 1 pound of hamburger and put it in the sauce. Pick up a loaf of french bread, make garlic bread and you are feeding people for little. A nice touch to make it feel special is get some good parmesan cheese (not the crap in the green jar) and sprinkle that on top.

Another fairly cheap dinner is sloppy joes. You can serve those with canned baked beans and potato chips. I would get 4 pounds of burger.

Pasta salad is very reasonable. Hot dogs too and you can make them special with canned (no beans) chili and shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions. You can seve those with beans, chips, pasta salad.

Lasagna is not expensive if you make it yourself and a pan of it will feed 12 people.

Home made sloppy Joe's, chips, pickles, (relish tray?) and macaroni salad......plus a large punch bowl, they can really taste and look nice! (saves money on drinks too!) All easily presented, crock pot to keep it hot, and serve yourself.
