Do I have Head and Neck Cancer?
I'm 18 and I worry about almost anything. For about 3-4 years I have been worrying about lymph nodes in my neck. I discovered them in October 2009 I think, although it could have been 2008, and there were 3 Nodes in my neck. One about 1cm big and two others 5mm big. I worried about them all night assuming I had cancer until I discovered what Lymph Nodes were and then thought nothing else about it. I prodded them on and off since that night. About a year ago I found too more lymph nodes in my groin, which are a similar size. I also got a slightly visible tonsil on one side, the same side as the neck lymph nodes. It wasn't infected and it was the same colour as the rest of my throat. It has been visible ever since. Recently my lymph nodes have been hurting me, almost like a muscle pain. I have prodded them pretty hard the last year. I also sometimes get pain in my ear on the same side and my throat. It's not constant pain it's just the odd occasion. Normally it occurs when i wake. I have had post nasal drip and a cough from around the same time as discovering my lymph nodes.
My main question is, do I have cancer or are these symptoms been brought upon by my self. Does my constant prodding cause my lymph nodes to be in pain and cause my Tonsil to be visible. Does it also cause the pain? I am quite worried and I know i should go to the doctor but I just wondered if i am being silly and I'm perfectly healthy and should stop prodding around.

If you had had cancer for that long you would know it. Lymph glands are part of the body's defence against infection.
Leave it alone.

I’m sorry about the symptoms you are experiencing and that you are constantly worried about your health. This must be a difficult time for you.
Lymph nodes tend to get bigger when you have an infection. They tend to go back to normal once the infection has cleared. I suppose they could also feel bigger and painful if they are constantly being prodded.
But it’s not really possible for anyone to give you a reliable diagnosis via the internet. However, I don’t think you need to be overly concerned as cancer is practically unheard of in someone of your age.
The best thing for you to do is to see your GP to get checked out. So if you’ve not already done so, it would be a good idea for you to make an appointment as this is likely to be the best way of sorting out your concerns.
In most cases the symptoms will turn out to be caused by something else that is not cancer, but it is always sensible to get ongoing symptoms checked out to be on the safe side. A lot of people don’t tell their GP that they are worried about having cancer, but the best way to put your mind at rest is to talk your concerns over with your GP.
It can also really help to talk to your parents or someone you are close to when you’re worried about your health.

It could be an allergic reaction, it could be a reaction to a drug your taking, or, you could have lymphoma, It's interesting you mention your tonsils, Tonsillitis can cause infection, which can cause the lymph nods to swell, I could go on all day but calm down. Chances are it's something simple, however, no Doctor or anyone can tell you what, if anything, is wrong without going in for a physical examanation. A biopsy may be neccessary. Your probably scared of going to the Dr. because your afraid he may confirm your worst fears. PLEASE go see a Medical Doctor, chances are it's something minor, however if it's not, the sooner the problem is found the better off you are. Don't Listen to anyone that tells you not to go to a Doctor. You do alot of what if thinking, try to calm down, and see a doctor as soon as you can. Just because you may be a hypochondriac it doesn't mean you can't get sick. Go see a Dr., get an exam and then you will know where you stand.
