How can I get my appetite back?

I've recovered from bulimia not too long ago but before I used to be able to eat plenty of food without purging, now for the past week and a half I can barely eat, for example: skip breakfast, half of a turkey breast with lettuce on a whole grain tortilla wrap, then for dinner I can only get in a few bites. Today I ate a cookie and I feel overly full. I need to somehow get my appetite back so I don't lose weight again. Any tips?

I think one of the best ways to jump start your appetite is to start jogging/running or being physically active. Your body burns through calories and starts asking you to eat more naturally for fuel.

Some other ways to boost your metabolism and appetite are:

    strength training

eating certain foods, green tea, onions, celery

using spices on foods, tamarind, chilli pepper, cumin powder

I dated someone who had very severe form of bulimia and it's not a great thing, but you can overcome it. If at all possible, try not to skip breakfast. I know it isn't easy for many, but simply getting some oatmeal in your body will do wonders for you for the rest of the day. :-)

Good luck, you can do it!

    Hey lovey,

Firstly well done on your recovery :)

Having recovered from an eating disorder myself I know how you feel. When I was recovering I had a similar problem but at the time I didn't realise it was mainly psychological. I was so used to being hungry and under-eating that when i started to eat normally again I felt guilty and greedy and this made me lose my apetite. For me it was about realising I've treated my body badly for long enough and now it deserves to eat what it wants!

If you dont think its psycholgical in your case then just increase your apetite bit by bit. Once you get into the swing of things you'll probably find you get your hunger back as your body starts to remember what its like to have normal eating habits. Also, getting a bit of exercise is sure to work up an apetite.

    Good luck xx

Hello, I recovered from anorexia so in some degree, I know what you're going through. It's not surprising that you don't want to eat loads of food. You've only just recovered so it's going to take time for your body to adjust. Keep eating and set yourself targets. Try to finish a meal (even if it's a small one) Also, I know it's hard but it's important you try to have something for breakfast. Even if it's just a piece of fruit. It will help give you energy throughout the day and you'll probably start noticing you get hungry earlier in the day. Eventually, you'll get your appetite but if you don't then maybe you should go see your doctor.

I would take it slow, try adding a little more to your diet every day. Or maybe talk to your doctor. I have heard your stomach stretches so maybe by adding a more each day it will help. Good luck :)
