I know they are cheap but NewBalance are really nice running shoes in my opinion and rather cheap as well! Buy 2 maybe 3! for the price of one nike which I used too love but I have had the same pair of running shoes for 3-4 years now (since I was 14) so 3.... Still fit great though my feet even grew.... I also have wide feet which is a problem for me too find shoes that are reliable for wide feet they come from narrow too double wide.

The higher the number of the shoes example 1200 compared too 300 as you could guess the higher the better and lighter. I also have flat feet which causes shin splits and the insole of the shoe is a pretty good stock insole.

WOOOO xD... Miss leading title ;) (By the way I have never wore converse in my life always been a very hyper kid so I always owend running or basketball shoes especially because they come in widths I used too also get my shoes customized by nike but I now prefer NB for running but for style Nike but for a main shoe... Guess is the best brand ever for mens shoes buy your bf a pair haha cheap but has amazing leather, suede and designs.)

Nike Free Run +2 all the way. I ran 250 miles on these shoes and they still hold up well. I feel a little sore after a long long run ( 10 miles plus) but for a gym these are very light and durable.

All of the major brands make good shoes, so go to a running shoe store, not just a sporting goods store and try on different shoes, until you find what feels best to your feet.
