What went wrong with the once responsible Democrat party?
I remember a long time ago Bill Clinton ran a budget surplus. At that time I though the Democrats (especially Clinton) were cool and cared about the future and understood the destructive power of deficits. Now Democrats are destroying the future with titanic deficits that will destroy the US and much of the world.
Why did the Democrats become so evil and uncaring about the future?
What happened to the promising party of Bill Clinton? How did it turn in to the economic doomsday machine that is Obama?

I suppose they were badly led astray by Bush, who quickly managed to reverse Clinton's efforts.

Personally I have always seen the Dems as the best people for an America moving forward in it's development as a modern country. But if I hated the Dems I still wouldn't wish on them the mess they inherited in 2008. Mr Bush was not responsible for that mess, you can give the credit for that situation to a bunch of maniacs who flew planes into the World Trade Centre. Take a look some time at New York City shrouded in the ash cloud of a fallen WTC and ask yourself if any country can not be stricken by such an attack.

Deficits are not necessarily bad. After all, plenty of people appreciate the security of investing in Treasury Bonds. Very large deficits are a problem, but it's an even worse problem to reduce taxes and also reduce government services to the point where our essential needs are neglected just to pay down the deficit. Our infrastructure is crumbling, our educational institutions are neglected, unemployment is still way too high. Only government can make the sort of investments necessary to significantly improve conditions, and that essentially means raising taxes. At the very least, we need to end the huge tax breaks and benefits enjoyed by the wealthiest individuals and corporations.

It is only with our collective consent that we are governed by politicians whose self interest overrides their commitment to serve the people who elected them. We must hold all elected officials accountable when they do not feel compelled to serve our needs. Which party is to blame for not resolving important issues? I say both.
The Republicans and Democrats work together to sell us on a big lie. That lie is that they are both working to overcome the unreasonableness of those in the other party. I say it’s a smoke screen to hide bad behavior. Don’t even give them credit for bills that are passed and signed into law. The attached pork is criminal and only for their self preservation.
They divide and conquer us using partisan rhetoric. That verbal poison keeps us focused on our differences, instead of the lousy job they are doing. They lament about how the other party has become intractable over the issue of the day. In reality, neither party intends to address that issue after the election anyway.
Our power as citizens is more important than any politician getting re-elected. Getting re-elected is what our politicians are most concerned about. They need to spend a lot of money to get re-elected these days. They are expected to pay their big contributors back by passing laws that favor those contributors. It has been demonstrated over and over that it rarely benefits to you and me. Let's put an end to that process.
Always vote against incumbents. Even if you think they do a great job. This will create a one term limit. Term limits imposed by us, the voters, will eventually draw smart people into politics that want to serve the people instead of making a career out of the job.

I don't think thier evil. I think they're living with a hood pulled over thier eyes. They honestly believe people support the runaway spending and massive power grab we've seen since Barack Obama came into office.
I think the only way our country will survive and not end up like Greece is if people wake up and vote Obama out of office. The only other hope is if the Republicsns maintain control of the House and gain control of the Senate.
The fact that the Republicans controlled both branches of government when Clintonwas in office is what kept him under control and makes us all remember him as a good president.

Easy, it was the Republicans in Congress at the time that kept spending under control. Also, most of the "budget surplus" that only shows up on CBO budget reports was paid for by major cuts in military spending. Once we needed the military again, we had to increase spending to rebuild our military again.

They hate America. Clinton was doing this but he had a republican controlled congress.
