Can Sikhs serve in the U. S. military?

And if so, what compromises do they make? How does this compare to the British military?

I read an article in Army Times that they just allowed a Sihk Chaplain into the Army. They let him keep his beard (but did require it be kept neatly), and allowed him to wear a turban-like beret.
