Jehovah's Witnesses, When will you start to use the real name of God, which is Yahweh?

Many JW'S claim that Jehovah is God's personal name, but this is not true. Jehovah is not the english version of Yahweh. JW'S make this false claim all day long...why?

Update:

Hi Happy,

I know we've gone around this bush before, but I'll keep reminding you that Jehovah is a hybrid TERM, and is not a name. The JW'S keep insisting that Jehovah is God's personal name, but it is not...no matter how much you want it to be. The name is Yahweh, and has always been Yahweh.

Lone, When will the JW'S use the real name. Again Jehovah is a hybrid term and not God's name.

If the tetragrammaton is translated correctly..you get YHWH, which reads Yahweh.... not Jehovah. Jehovah isn't even close to the proper translation, or name, so why force a round peg into a squar hole? Why does the WTBTS push a name that isn't correct?

Update 2:

Hi Truth Now,

Jehovah may be a popular name, but it still isn't the correct name. You say that using the name of God is important. I agree with you, but shouldn't you use the correct name if you think it's that important? Why use a hybrid term instead of the proper name Yahweh?

Update 3:

Hi Hong Kong,

You know, you JW'S pick on the Catholics way too much. I'm not Catholic, so maybe you should ask them. And what does your response have to do with the proper name of God, which is Yahweh, have to do with Catholics anyway? I asked this question to JW'S who seem to think they have God's name correct, and they obviously don't, so let's deal with the question at hand and leave those poor little Catholics alone for a bit...ok!

Update 4:

Hi Linda,

It does nt matter what languages we're talking here. Again I'll say it for the record here for all JW'S to see. Jehovah is a hybird "term" and in NOT the name of God. Please do a study on God's name and you'll see this to be true. All I'm trying to do is show you that the name you use is NOT correct, no matter how popular you may think it is. If you want to live in truth, you need to understand the truth of God's personal name. Many JW'S say the english name of God is Jehovah....this is not true!

Update 5:

Hi Linedance,

I also use Yeshua quit a bit, but that still doesn't address God's name. Why use a Hybrid term instead of Yahweh? Again, Jehovah is not even close to a correct translation. Youtube the name of God and see what you come up with. Or Google it and see what you get. Or you could really dig a bit deeper and do a Hebrew study on God's real name. They all lead to the name Yahweh...not Jehovah.

Update 6:

SO FAR, Grey Tower has given the most honest answer using a snippet from one of the WTBTS printed books. It's there for all JW'S to see if they are so inclined. It gets pretty bad when a none JW knows much more than the JW'S themselves. Again, Jehovah is a hybrid term and not a name.

When hell freezes over, which isn't going to be anytime soon. Oh, but I forgot - they don't believe in hell. Interestingly, on 9 February 1950, the New World Translation Committee confessed that "Whilst inclining to view the pronunciation "Yah.weh" as the more correct way, we have retained the form "Jehovah" because of people's familiarity with it since the 14th century" (page 23 of the Forward). This appears in the 1969 edition of the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures - the one with the purple cover.

They fail to mention that the name "Jehovah" was unknown to all the prophets and saints and it first appeared from the pen of a Dominican Monk, Raymundus Martini.

The original pronunciation of God’s name is no longer known. Nor is it really important. If it were, then God himself would have made sure that it was preserved for us to use. The important thing is to use God’s name according to its conventional pronunciation in our own language.

Below are the forms of the divine name in different languages, indicating international acceptance of the form Jehovah.

    Awabakal - Yehóa

    Bugotu - Jihova

    Cantonese - Yehwowah

    Danish - Jehova

    Dutch - Jehovah

    Efik - Jehovah

    English - Jehovah

    Fijian - Jiova

    Finnish - Jehova

    French - Jéhovah

    Futuna - Ihova

    German - Jehova

    Hungarian - Jehova

    Igbo - Jehova

    Italian - Geova

    Japanese - Ehoba

    Maori - Ihowa

    Motu - Iehova

    Mwala-Malu - Jihova

    Narrinyeri - Jehovah

    Nembe - Jihova

    Petats - Jihouva

    Polish - Jehowa

    Portuguese - Jeová

    Romanian - Iehova

    Samoan - Ieova

    Sotho - Jehova

    Spanish - Jehová

    Swahili - Yehova

    Swedish - Jehova

    Tahitian - Iehova

    Tagalog - Jehova

    Tongan - Jihova

    Venda - Yehova

    Xhosa - uYehova

    Yoruba - Jehofah

    Zulu - uJehova

BTW, I have noticed in past posts that you have no trouble calling God's Son by the name of Jesus. Are you aware that that is not how his name was originally pronounced? Does that make you guilty of making a false claim?

    "Hi Linedance,

I also use Yeshua quit a bit, but that still doesn't address God's name. Why use a Hybrid term instead of Yahweh? Again, Jehovah is not even close to a correct translation."

No, you don't also use Yeshua quite a bit. Every time you refer to the Son of God, you say "JESUS." If you know that name is incorrect, why use it at all?

One other thing. According to a previous post of yours, you said God is made up of THREE persons. Yahweh is the name of a single person--the Father. So tell me, what is the name of the entire three-person godhead? You know full well that he is nameless. So, why do you make an issue of JWs' using the name Jehovah for God, since that is what the KJB says his name is?

The reason Grey Tower's answer seems so appealing to you is because you have become an apostate who has turned back to the vomit of this world's false teachings. So, giving her the Best Answer just proves that the best answer is not always the Best Answer.

"Grey Tower has given the most honest answer using a snippet from one of the WTBTS printed books. It's there for all JW'S to see if they are so inclined. It gets pretty bad when a none JW knows much more than the JW'S themselves."

What an asinine remark. The WTBTS has said for many years that "Jehovah" is not how God's name was originally pronounced, just like "Jesus" is not the true renderring of the name of the Son of God." The WT says: "Some [scholars] feel that the Israelites before the time of Jesus probably pronounced God’s name Yahweh. But no one can be sure. Perhaps they pronounced it that way, perhaps not. [However], for centuries the form Jehovah has been the internationally recognized way to pronounce God’s name, and people who hear it instantly recognize who is being spoken about.

So, don't tell us that a non-JW knows more about us than we know about ourselves.

It's kind of ridiculous to say: Jehovah's Witnesses make this false claim about using Jehovah as God's name.

All over the world, before the formation of the true Christian Congregation-in the last days-Jehvoah has been used as the name of the God of the Bible.

Now that God's true worshipers use His Divine name, we are false all day long; not really a valid argument.

P.S, See the brochure: The Divine Name that will endure forever. Printed by the watchtower society.

Here's a better question. If Yahweh is right, according to you, why are Catholics prohibited from using it?

    http://www.cogwriter.com/news/doctrine/pope-prohib...

King James reads this at Psalms 83:18-

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth

Shame you can't read. I provided a Bible translation from the 1600's with Jehovah in it. So why are you picking on Jehovah's Witnesses when many people not Jehovah's Witnesses use it? Are you going to post questions to all of them separately? How about you lay off of Jehovah's Witnesses a bit...OK!

I call The Father Yahweh as well. It depends on the person I am talking with. If it is a Christian or a Trinitarian, I use Jehovah. If I meet somebody in the field service that objects to using the name Jehovah, I use Yahweh. Here is the Bible standard:

    1 Cor 9:19-23

For, though I am free from all persons, I have made myself the slave to all, that I may gain the most persons. And so to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those under law I became as under law, though I myself am not under law, that I might gain those under law. To those without law I became as without law, although I am not without law toward God but under law toward Christ, that I might gain those without law. To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to people of all sorts, that I might by all means save some. But I do all things for the sake of the good news, that I may become a sharer of it with [others].

Every language has its own way of pronouncing God’s name. I see no problem with this. Why do you? Maybe you should log on to Y/A Japan and make the same complaint.

We use many forms of God's name. It depends on what language we speak. The important thing is that He asked us to use His name and we choose to obey Him.

The bible says that in the last days, His people would be known by His name. Gee, I wonder who they are?

The way Jesus pronounced the DEVINE name-we don't know.

Jehovah is the most popular in the USA

different in other countries-like your name is different

using His name is most important

NEVER refer to God by His real name. If you had to appear in court, would you walk in to the judge and say, "Hey Bob". No. Would you walk up to the Queen and say, "wassup Beth"? Would you greet the leader of your nation by their first name? No. Why? IT IS DISRESPECTFUL. Do you respect God? He deserves more respect than these people you wouldn't call by name.
