Nail problem in the floors?

This seems to happen mostly in the cooler months.

I have some nails in the floors that keep coming up from time to time. There are about 7 of them in the whole house that do this. They get hammered down, but keep coming up.

Does anyone know what the problem is, and how it can be fixed?

Thanks.

Anything made of wood expands and contracts due to differences in humidity and temperature. The nails are "popping" when this happens. The nail holes are too big for the nails to hold at this point.

To fix the problem get some nails called MAZE nails that are slightly larger than the existing nails and replace the 7 nails OR remove the 7 nails and replace them with slightly larger screws.

as you walk on the boards the wood flexes and the nails are drawn up use a nail punch or old srewdriver to knock the nails down deeper

the problem can occur for a variety of reasons, from broken nails to rotted floor joists, next time remove nail and place at least a 2in screw in its place .you can feel the bite of the screw as you place it if not use a 3in screw
