Should I start playing Mass Effect now?
Everyone says the Mass Effect is a great game and I haven't played any of them at all. I would hate to start the game at the 3rd and was just wondering.... Is it worth it to buy the first then second and finally the third? I also downloaded the demo of the xbox live market and thought of it as a little boring. Would it pick up or was that just because I wasn't really involved? (I've also gotten really bored of just about all video games and was looking for something to put time into) THANKS

The Mass Effect series is the equivalent of an interactive novel. It is a very story-heavy game, so if that's not for you, give the thought up right now. As long as you have the interest in learning, and the time to contribute to enjoying the game, then this would be right up your alley.
Now, I'll get into which game to start from.
From personal opinion, I would suggest starting from the very first Mass Effect. This is about the same as starting from the very first book in a series, because it establishes a lot and introduces you to (in my opinion) one of the greatest nemesis' in a video game. The only discussable issue here would be the combat system, which is heavily integrated with the RPG elements of the game. It's clunky... inaccurate... but in the end, I still enjoyed the aesthetics of it. It's not bad, it's just not amazing.
However, if you're more inclined to enjoy better graphics and a faster experience, then starting at Mass Effect 2 is a possibility you shouldn't ignore. They have a little downloadable Mass Effect 1 comic book that runs you through the first game in an expedited fashion, letting you make the big choices and giving you the bits of story you absolutely need to know. With that, starting at Mass Effect 2 is a little less painful, and you'll be able to enjoy the story more.
Long story short, starting at Mass Effect 3 would effectively hinder your enjoyment of the game, since the last in the series is so heavily intertwined with the choices you make in the first two games. Start somewhere between the first and second is my recommendation. Hope you enjoy the series as much as I have.
