Laptop powering up problem?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D (I'm pretty sure that model is right) and it won't turn on. It just recently got fixed about two months ago because the part that connected the motherboard to the power supply input got separated. I think that's what the problem was. But anyway....

I got my mom's laptop battery out of her newer Toshiba Satellite because her's always stays plugged in anyway and mine was dried up. I've been using it perfectly for about a week. But today I let my friend use it.

It was working fine all day until halfway through school my friend asks if he can use my laptop for a second. It's charging so I say he can go ahead as long as he doesn't unplug the charger because I know that's bad for the computer. So I turn around and talk to my friend behind me. I look back and my friend had unplugged the laptop. He was using it fine so I ignored it. Once he returned it he plugged it back in and the screen went black. This happened once before after I switched out the battery but I fixed it by taking out the battery and plugging in the power supply and it turned on. Then I would shut it down, put the battery back in, and it would work perfectly.

But now nothing's working.

I've tried:

-New battery, no power supply.

-New battery, with power supply.

-Old battery, no power supply (I knew this wouldn't work. Wouldn't hurt to try though)

-Old battery, with power supply.

-No battery, with power supply.

-All these same things using my mom's power supply, which works perfectly in her battery-less laptop. So the power supply can't be the problem.

Nothing works. No lights pop up. Not even the "it's plugged in" light that is always on when it's plugged in (which is a big majority of the time).

Anyway, what do you think the problem could be? And how could I fix it?

Thank you!

I would take it back to the place that supposedly fixed it the first time and tell them they either didn't fix it right, or botched the repair.

The first hint is that you have problems with, and refrained from, unplugging the laptop charger while the laptop was in use. This SHOULD be something you can do without an issue. I've owned over a dozen laptops and have supported hundreds more and have never had a single one that could not be plugged in or unplugged while in use.

That is one of the great benefits of a laptop... the fact that you had odd behavior with yours leads me to believe there is an issue with the circuitry that regulates the charging of the battery. It's supposed to seamlessly trickle-feed your battery while the computer is being used. Since your computer would balk at this, it seems as if the battery wasn't able to compensate fast enough.

It seems that there is more going on than the simple power connection... either the initial damage was far worse. Or, the repair shop may have damaged the control circuitry when replacing the damaged charging port. This could have been done by something as simple as a soldiering iron that was too hot...

Take it back to the repair place and demand that they get it right this time!

Try remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Toshiba Satellite L305D laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.

Check if it's something to do with your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and power on your Toshiba Satellite L305D with the charger only.

---Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. If power jack is loose you can find laptop power jack on ebay. However, fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill.

--Always, the green/blue LED on charger needs to be constantly on. If not, replace the defective charger. Since battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, to help you save some money, you can consider getting a Toshiba Satellite L305D charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com

    Wish the Best.

    Try a power reset:

Take the battery out AND unplug it from a charger.

With the battery out and the charger disconnected, hold the on button for 30 seconds. Nothing should happen. Then coonect the battery or charger and see if it turns on.

Source(s): Happens to me. This is how Toshiba's support told me to fix it.
