What is the electoral college appointment process for TX?

I am looking for any and all information regarding how the appointment of our electoral colleges are appointed around the country. As I understand it, states are left to decide themselves how to appoint but I have yet to find ANY references on an official application or appointment system based on merit.

Other states I am interested in learning about are Oregon, California, Minnesota and Colorado.

If you have any experience in this in any other state you are more than welcome to chime in.

The Electoral College is made up of people from the different states.

May I please pick a state and start from scratch?

New Mexico has 5 electoral votes.

We get one vote for each US Senator and one vote for each member of the House of Representative.

Every state has two US Senators. Every state must have at least one member of the House of Representatives.

    Now what you must know: NO incumbent US Senator or Representative may become a member of the Electoral College. {Incumbent = In Office Right Now.}

435 members of the House of Representatives

    100 members of the Senate

    . . 3 votes for Washington D. C.

    -----------------------

    538/ 2 = 269 + 1 = Magic # of 270

After our Primary in June the Democrats and the Republicans will hold a state convention. Two different days. Usually it only meets for one day. At that time we will pick the delegates to the National Convention and somewhere in that process each party will pick 5 Electors. These men and women are chosen because they have done something great for the party. So now we have 5 died in the wool Republican Electors and 5 died in the wool Democratic Electors.

Every other political party in the state will meet and pick their 5 Electors. Such as the Green Party or The Communist Party. I think we had some 5 or 6 different parties on our last ballot for President.

Now the November Election, 2012. At the end of the day if it is determined that the Republican candidate won the state (The candidate has one more vote than the other party)

On Monday after the second Wednesday in December the 5 Republican Electors will assemble in Santa Fe, go to the office of the Sec. of State in the State Capitol, present their certificate as a Republican Elector. Each of the 5 electors will be given two ballots. On will clearly be labeled ___ for President and the other will clearly be labeled ___ for Vice President.

Now the November Election, 2012. At the end of the day if it is determined that the Democratic candidate won the state (The candidate has one more vote than the other party)

On Monday after the second Wednesday in December the 5 Democratic Electors will assemble in Santa Fe, go to the office of the Sec. of State in the State Capitol, present their certificate as a Democratic Elector. Each of the 5 electors will be given two ballots. On will clearly be labeled ___ for President and the other will clearly be labeled ___ for Vice President.

In New Mexico The 5 Electors will be told that they must vote for the President candidate for President from their party and the Vice President candidate from their party for Vice President or they will be arrested. I put that in the story because one time an elector from another state wrote in the name of the Vice President candidate on the ballot for President and the VP candidate is recorded in history as having one electoral vote.

The winning members of the Electoral College assemble in the respective state capitals. They never meet as a group.

The Secretary of State is the one that sends the completed certified ballots to the President of the Senate, {Vice President of the USA}. It is his job to preside over the counting of the ballots on January 6th in the year following a Presidential Election. The ballots are counted in front of the Joint Session of Congress. If a candidate has 270 Electoral Votes a winner is declared he/she and invited to the inauguration on Jan. 20th.

The Electoral College was set up to keep the Presidential contest National and not regional. Because of the Electoral College each candidate is force to at least look at each state. He/she is forced to look at the entire USA. Without the Electoral College the candidates would be able to concentrate on a much smaller area. A smaller area is also easier to promote voter fraud. We all know that voter fraud takes place. However the Electoral College means you must look at more than one area of the nation. Most people feel that the Electoral College benefits the Large states such as California, Texas, New York to name a few but in reality it benefits the small states. The candidate needs our votes in many states to reach that 270.
