Working at a greenhouse, what should I do?! Will reward 10 points for best answer?

Hey yahooers

I just got a job at a Greenhouse as a In-Store Merchandising/Service Representative. I was wondering what I should be expected to know and just get some knowledge about it. I've never worked at a green house before and i'll be working full time in the summer for about 2 months (thats when there most busy and need hands)

Also what should I expect to be paid? Minimum Wage in Ontario is $10.25 per hour, and I'm a university student so I don't know if that means i get paid less than min.

What should I be negotiating

Background on company:

Their primary focus is bedding plants. Most of their product is propagated in house from seed or unrooted cuttings.

The grow bedding plants including patio ready container gardens, perennials, flowering cyclamen, fall garden mums, poinsettias, hydrangea’s among others

Recap of Questions

What should I expected to know/do as In-Store Merchandising/Service Representative? (i will receive training)

what should I expect to be paid?

What should I be negotiating for?

Anything else you think will be useful to know will help :D

thanks!

You should be expected to know all of their product line, and prices, be able to answer questions from customers about these products. Like, Does it live indoors or out? Does it live in sun or shade? What is the best plant to put in a pot on a patio? How often do I water? Plus many many more. You'll be loading and recieving plants, stocking and pricing, and watering.

Being able to do this for the boss will be a huge bonus. It increases sales when you have knowledgable sales help.

Salary depends on your experience. If you have none, expect the minimum. But if you learn quickly and help others, are on time, no complaints, after 30 days ask for a raise. Get your foot in the door for now.

I would say that it is so variable... there are so many things to learn that vary from job to job.. I can't comfortably say what you should be prepared for at all... I say you should just do the training and find out.. of course try to get at least minimum wage.. that one is pretty obvious. Good luck.
