Am I being too strict with my son?

I am a mom. I drive my 5th grade, 11 year old son and two other classmates from their school to band at another school.

Today one of these kids got his clarinet from my trunk and did not wait for my son to walk with him. They are do not hang out together but are in the same Boy Scout Troop.

I think this kid was rude. I told my son if he ever did that to someone else he would be in big trouble with me.

Do you think I'm right?

I Agree with you. He was rude. He could have used common curtisey and waited for you son. Made him feel included. If your son treats other people nice and shows them respect as a person he'll become someone that the insecure kids trust

You might point out that this appears rude, however, if this child does NOT like your child perhaps this makes him more comfortable to just get going. Everyone is NOT our friend in this world.

Yes. It was rude. But not everybody is nice in this world.

    So be careful.

i think saying he'd be in big trouble is too much, just telling him its rude and disrespectful is enough.

I think that's right because your teaching him that its wrong, if you didn't say anything its likely he would copy.
