Is there anybody out there who has Alpine plants in there garden?

We have a fishpond that is empty and i want to start a Alpine garden in it. I have read what soil, gravel etc has to be used but don't know what Alpine plants to buy. I am also worried that i might spend a lot of money on Alpines and then they die. I want to know if anybody has alpines in their garden and are they hardy, do they last through Winter [snow, ice] etc. Will really appreciate any info i can get.tku.:)

I have a few alpines in my garden and they are very colourful and great at spreading. They do survive the bad weather. Purchase small plants they grow quickly over the summer.

I have quite a few placed in the dry stone wall at the back of my house. They are very hardy but I lost a few winter before last as we had minus 24 for a long time and some of them just didn't make it.
