Where Is My Memory Going?

I have a 40 GB. hard drive on my Toshiba laptop (300 MB. remaining). I'm nearly full and I don't know why. I recently deleted all my music files and cleared over 2 GB. of memory. I haven't downloaded anything since, yet my newly free memory is quickly evaporating.

Bonus Question: I know I'll need to purchase a new/larger hard drive, It's going to run appx. $150, and It seems that I'll need to pay another $40+ for hardware to connect the old and the new to transfer the existing programs. Can I rent this 'transfer kit'? I'm only going to use it once and it's going to end up in a closet forever. Thanks!

Ok you should clear the trash if you havent already. Also you can right click on a folder and then click properties to see how much space it has.

You might want to consider getting an external hard drive if you still need more space

    40GB? that isn't much.

What OS are you using? That could be taking up a lot of space.
