What happens when I stop birth control?
I've been on 3 different types of birth control for almost a year now. I am sexually active, but the main reason I'm on it is to control my crazy periods. I'm currently on Seasonique and actually really love it. No periods or major side effects. The only complaint I have is I've gained about 10lbs and can't lose it. Lately, I've been sort of freaked out by the possible future side effects bc will have on my body. But I'm actually terrified about what's going to happen to my body once/if I stop taking it. Anyone ever have any major issues after stopping birth control? How long did it take for them to go away?
@Pamela: I'm on the pill and my boyfriend uses a condom every single time. I'm not asking if I'll get pregnant. I'm asking if there will be any major changes to my body.
@Serene.... darling... I'm terrified because I've heard horror stories from friends and people online about what happens after stopping bc. Like, major weight gain or even major weight loss, horrible mood swings, heavy periods that lasted for weeks. No need to be rude or sarcastic on here. I'm simply asking a question. I would rather not deal with a nightmare after stopping the pill. Which is why I'm asking. Thought that was the whole purpose of this website. Thanks for your input, but your attitude and answer both suck.

After discontinuing the pill I lost all the weight I had gained from it, as do most woman ;] One complaint is my boobs shrank!! lol my periods were more heavy and unpredictable. You may get mood swings as I did when I got off it messes with your hormones a bit but no major side effects.

I was on Ortho Novum and switched to Ortho Try-cyclen when Novum was discontinued. On it for slightly over 20 years. Once I stopped there was a little spot bleeding (not much) and within 2 months my period came back as normal. No bad side effects at all.

sigh.......dear, I have no idea why you would be 'TERRIFIED' about anything. You stop taking it, your period will be messed up again, and will come when it comes and that's it.
