How far apart do rafter have to be from each other?

I am constructing a 36' x 46' gable roof. I am considering of going all steel rather than timber. I'm using "c" channel steel for rafters and purl ins and zinc coated metal sheet on top. My concern is how many feet apart from each other should the rafters be placed? What type of trusses to weld? Over all will the steel outlast the lumber by a huge number of years? In this location there is no snow, no salt water and mostly hot climate and a few months of rainy season.

2 foot on center considering the load

steel will rust in humid condition,s wood will flex

C Chanel is for up right , applications

I would go with wood , in your case

Space rafters 24" or closer together. This gives a 2" overlap. Lath needs to be spaced according to the roofing panel manufacture's instructions.
