Conservatives don't oppose environmental protections "just because." We believe there is a difference between environmentally responsible conduct regarding pollution and a scheme to defraud the citizens of the United States (among others) of legitimately gained earnings. This is about building power to advance an ideological agenda, not the protection of the environment.

Regarding the Martin case, rational conservatives (not talking about Beck) believe that the justice system needs to do it's job, and that the case shouldn't be decided on public opinion.

We'll take your example.. CO2 is not bad. CO2 plays a pretty important role in photosynthesis, without which plants would all die and we'd starve. Well CO2 is bad for you if you only breath CO2. But it's fine in atmosphere because plants need it for food. The Martin shooting would be justified if what Zimmerman says it true but it is becoming obvious that Zimmerman went after Martin which makes him unable to use the self defense law.
