Is it possible for someone to be in the attic (or animal) even though there is no obvious way to get in?

I hear noises when I'm in our master bedroom and bathroom, like someone is right above me and trying to be quiet-no kidding. I have passed it off as maybe the wind since we live in a high wind area, but find it odd that the wind would shake the roof to sound as if someone(think) is balancing on the rafters??? I don't see how anything(one) can get into our attic as it's unused and we have cathedral ceilings. It is really freaky and want to find out but not sure how to get up there since there is no access! We have bats in the area but this sounds like significant weight being put on one or more rafter beams and seems to always be where I am at!

Update:

sorry I meant (thing) by someone or something

usually when some one gives a description of a person in the attic it turns out to be a raccoon, possums can be almost as noisy...more times than not when you are on the ground looking up for an entry point on a home you will not see it...would need a ladder for a better angle... a common hidden spot are the wrap around (eyebrows) of the roof...dormers are a second common entry point.

Yes, it is possible for a squirel or scunk to gain access to your overhead space. This is possible if you have ground space under your house. If you have a walkout basement, mice can find a way to get in. Check out your foundation and where the house sits on the foundation. There may be a piece of concrete that has fallen off. Plumbing drains and vent pipes from them like your bath tub is covered up where you are not able to see the large cut out of the sub flooring. Mice or squirels climb to the attic by way of pipes, wires and sheetrock. I think it is squirels. Check the face board trim around your house which is just below the edge of the roof. They call it the facial board. If you have evergreens that are close to the house especially against the roof edge, squirels can do their damage with the help of woodpeckers. Just give your outside inspection. Sometimes if a screen Gets pulled away from the vent cap on the roof of your house, squirels can gain entry. Hope all of this helps.

We had a squirrel doing that in our attic he finally just left. We do not know how he got in house is sided there were no openings and no holes in the roof. Mysteries of life I guess.
