I want to contact another member on here to personally thank them for an answer. How do I do that?
I will have to choose between two great answers, and will probably resort to flipping a coin, but I wanted to extend a thanks to each.

Click on their avatar - their profile will appear. If they have allowed emails, there will be a place for you to click on "send an email to xyz".

First go to your profile and activate the anonymous email.
Click on "Edit My Preferences" on the "My Activity" tab. You can also use this direct link: http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit
On the "Privacy & Communications" tab you can activate email. Be sure to click submit at the bottom.
Once that is done click on the person's avatar and see if there is an email link in their Y!A profile. If not they may not have activated it as indicated above.
