Do senior citizens ever start trying drugs in their old age?

Today is my birthday. I just turned 69. A friend at my school asked me if I was interested in trying psychedelic drugs. This made me laugh. I asked him why on earth would I do something like that when I don't even like to drink beer. No one has ever asked me something like this before. i told my daughter and laughed. She said the man was crazy.

I tried several "recreational" drugs, I was 46, our children were adults and lived out of our home.Thank God, I never got in trouble, nor got sick. I did have some fun experiences, but all the while was able to keep in mind what I was experiencing was just the reaction to the drug and it would be temporary.

My husband and I did do a psychedelic when I was about 59, fun, but decided I had experimented enough. I was always mindful that I could be taking a chance of creating physical problems. Didn't do anything after that, (marijuana is not in the same category). Never had a desire to try any again, I felt it would be tempting heart, liver, and who knows what else problems.

Never did any if I wasn't in a secure situation with rational people with me.

LOL We're the products of the 60s.....that is old hat for most of us. Been there, done that, Not for me. I had a very bad experience once and thought I was going to die. That did it! Only some smokes once in a while and that's it.

I need to ask my bff if she still has that 'special garden' in the back yard. I would think so. She's a genuine hippie from those days. She sang ballads and folk songs with a guitar in the coffee houses downtown St. Louis. She knows all the really cool spots to hit for a very interesting evening on the town. And I knew all the rockin' night clubs, so we had it all covered!.

Don't know, I never tried marijuana until I joined the military. Everyone smoked in the service and from the vets I'm talking to now it hasn't changed much.

    Happy Brthday and many more.

In my experience, MOST seniors are smart enough to leave that crap alone it's the immature ones that feel they "have to " risk their minds - and their lives - trying all kinds of crap instead of enjoying the beauty of life!

Most of us just kind of drifted away from all of those substances, I'll admit it is pretty recently for me. I did like my beer and pot. But I think, at least in my case, one just simply gets too tired to screw around with it.

No, and no one has ever asked me to.The only thing I ever did was smoke cigarettes. I quit over 25 years ago. I know this is bad but I miss my smoking days. It is not popular now but I hate that those things can truly harm you.

Never tried it but I have read LSD is a big mind expander - taken under the right conditions.

Yes, but drug use is most likely when people reach a mid life crisis in their 40s.
