Which god-gap do you think science will close next?

Tough call. The Hadron collider is getting awfully close to the Higgs Boson, but abiogenesis research is moving along at a pretty good clip too.

My bet is on the boson, and then they'll really have to stretch those posts on the "beginning of the universe" crap.

It may take a while, but deism will be tackled. The "first cause" of the universe. Actually I shouldn't use quotes there, because there is a first cause to the universe - it's just not a "first cause", as it must also be caused.

But the gap will be moved back, as you note. The metaphysical term used to describe "all of existence that is possible" is "omniverse". It includes our universe, and whatever else may exist. It is used in conjecture about multiverse theories. (If the universe is in a multiverse, is that also in a multi-multi-verse, and so on?) And so the term omniverse was coined.

I already know someone on R&S who is a theist, has figured out the nature of Dependent Origination of the universe, and has moved their goal post to an omniversal creator. They are referring to their belief not as deism, but as omnideism. (I think they are, if that's what they decided on.)

I'll probably get mad TD for this, but I don't view it that way.

Many Christians see scientific discoveries as an explanation of how God created the universe.

The only Christians that get affected by closing of gaps via science are Biblical Literalists.

I've heard them say there aren't any transitional fossils (or in their words 'missing links).

I've already heard that a few say that if extraterrestrials are proved to exist and don't know about God, that just means God did not tell them.

I have to wonder, do these people ever take a deep breath and look at things realistically?

Hopefully the idea of a soul. Once we can explain exactly how the brain is responsible for absolutely everything the idea of a soul will be ridiculous.
