You should NOT have been on Clomid for that long. After 3 months of a carefully monitored protocol, its time to change it up. Clomid has some very negative side effects that can actually hinder conception and pregnancy - it creates hostile cervical mucus (not good for sperm trying to get through), it thins your uterine lining (not good for an embryo trying to implant), and it can cause cysts to form (you don't want your eggs turning into cysts, you want them turning into babies). Since Clomid stays in your body for 30+ days, these negative side effects are cumulative - they get worse and worse each cycle. A prolonged succession of Clomid use is futile. You probably *couldn't* conceive on the stuff after 6 months because your lining was so thin there was no where for an embryo to implant.
You don't say much about your protocol or what testing and monitoring was done, but you should probably find a new doctor who knows what s/he's doing.
Good luck!

I am surprised they let you stay on it that long. They are not supposed to let you use it for more than 6 months because it can cause serious side affects from over exposure like cancer. You might need to move on to the next step in the infertility process which will be injectibles. Exact same process as clomid where you go in a bunch to see how many follicles are growing and how big they are but injectables are much more strong so they may monitor you more closely. and you give yourself a shot in the tummy (doesn't hurt) rather than swallow a pill. Clomid never worked for me. I got pregnant after 3 cycles of injectables.

You most definitely should NOT be on Clomid for that long. You shouldn't be on Clomid after the 3rd cycle... Who the hell is your fertility specialist? They need to be reported!!! You know you can get cancer from staying on that for too long? Good god please tell me you're not one of those obsessive women who buy clomid online and self medicate? It's dangerous girl! *facepalm*
If Clomid doesn't work for you after the 3rd cycle, then you need more invasive treatment because clearly they aren't working. And by working I mean ovulating. Clomid (if working correctly) WILL regulate your cycle you should pick up on whether it was working or not by 3-4 months and if not, GET OFF THEM.... Seriously GET OFF THEM!!!! You clearly have some sort of death wish *sigh*

Infertility can be caused by a huge number of factors: hormone imbalance, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Endometriosis, Anovulatory Cycles, physical blockage, inadequate hormone production, short luteal phase, lack of lutenizing hormone, high levels or prolactin, and many others. Poor nutrition often plays a major role, as does exposure to toxins. Age plays less of a role before menopause than was originally thought. While there are many wonderful naturally minded fertility specialists out there, in many cases it is not possible for them to test for and address any of these possible underlying issues.
