Co signer wants to cancel credit card?

I recently opened a jointed hsbc best buy credit card to build my credit back in Dec of 2011 with my girlfriend who is now my ex, we are still on good terms and still friends but she wants to close the account once it is paid which is understandable, the limit on the card is 1800 with a balance of 879, i have been paying the payments on time and in decent amounts and i will continue to do so. but my concern is this is my only credit card account, will canceling this card once its paid hurt my credit score? and is there a way to only remove her name so i can keep the account? or should i look at opening a new credit card account once my balance is paid or close to being paid off before canceling the best buy account. I am new to this and do not want to make any mistakes and continue building my credit. thanks!

Since you are technically an authorized user of the account, it is treated on your credit report the same as if it was in your name only.

If you have been paying on time and not late, then your credit will be fine. Even if you pay it off and she closes the account, the good history will remain on your report (as well as any bad history).

Try and get at least 12 months of good payment history before she closes the account. Tell her closing it too early will also affect her score as well.

She can not put the account in just your name, you will have to apply for your own card.

It's too early to convince Best Buy that you are credit worthy on your own and frankly... opening an account with a girlfriend as a co-signer wasn't the smartest move. Less than 3 months later she is your Ex and the whole deal has to be undone....

About the only thing you can do is pay off the card over a longer time period. Pray that your ex will be understanding and leave the account open for the next 8 months to a year so you can pay it off and get the benefit of a positive payment history... but if I was her I would insist it gets done within the next 2 months and that is it.

If you can hold onto the account for a year and then close it you have a decent chance that Best Buy will let you open your own account without the co-signer. Sit down with the ex girlfriend and make a solemn promise to pay off the balance within one year and to not make ANY further purchases on the account. Screw this up and she will come unglued and cancel it on you.... I know, I would....

NO there is no way to take her off without closing the account. It is the right thing to do if ya'll are not together anymore. Once the card is closed you may see a slight (50-100) point drop in your credit score but it is not a big deal at all. Once you open a new account as long as you keep the balance below 50% of the available credit your score should go back up double what you lost so no big deal. You may have to wait 90 days or so before opening another card in just your name and that may be a question you would have to pose to BestBuy...If you have a BrandSmart store anywhere near you they have a great credit program and Sears has a great credit program for first time or new(er) credit applicants....Also you can even do a paypal credit card application online ......Just try to start you up a card even while you are in the process of getting this one taken care of...Good luck..

properly there replaced right into a time at the same time as i wanted assorted money and my credit wasn't very good. bypass to Citifinanciere, they could help you with a particular quantity of money even in the experience that your credit isn't in a too good structure, and they'd no longer ask for a cosigner, it really is going to depand on your call for!

The ball is in your court: You'd have to refinance/reapply for this account under your name only....expect to be denied.
