Speed in MA: Why is it people do things so quickly?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201204...

I was just wondering if people quickly disliked my answer there because they knew some things.

Did people my answers there because they know it gives it a higher chance to be selected for best answer? Is that really why they are doing it?

Some other things I might have forgotten to include in that answer on martial arts:

Most people will say 50% power or 50% speed but they don't know what they are talking about so they can't explain to a student "how" to do it. Or they're even worse and they say "slow" and nobody knows what they mean. 80% is "slow" by most people's definitions. When I say 10% speed, what I actually mean is if your punch took you 1 second to do normally, then 10% speed means you need to count yourself and it must last At Least 10 seconds. Ten Seconds. If your punch didn't take 5 seconds when it normally takes 1 second, then it's not 50% speed.

That is one way to explain hesitation. That's just an addendum.

Update:

Liondancer: Sweating? I think you misunderstand. What I'm asking is if they give me thumbs down as a way for me to get selected Best Answer, because I've noticed that happen in the past. Since they don't write a comment explaining the choice they made, I'm wondering if anyone here has an answer to it.

Why does this mean I'm worried about getting thumbs down?

Update 2:

J: I think certain things are hard but not impossible to communicate using words or videos.

Few things are truly impossible. I use the word hesitation because things have gotten to a bad point if sparring partners refuse to spar because of someone's extreme spar methods. An emergency brake.

Jwbulldog: He gave a substantial list of potential situations. Not all can be true at the same time, but often times there's at least one of them that explains the events. Since there's no guideline, subjective mostly, it's good for people to think about these issues once in awhile.

Certain things just can't be explained with words and can only be gotten from experience. It can become a disservice by trying to explain it. Everyone comes to realize things differently, so it might not add up to another person the same way it did you.

The word hesitation doesn't settle with me well, but your explanation here is using it differently than how I've come to know the word "hesitate". Your other answer didn't go this deep, not that it still would of helped anything.

Control is in technique and has to be developed. It doesn't come in a box perfect, looking pretty. I don't think going slower is all that's there to it, but you may not be explaining deep enough in your definition of that here, either.

Some people just give a thumbs down regardless of the answer. Answering questions shouldn't be directed to other answerers, but the asker. You seemed to help him, and that's all that really matters.

    Ymir,

I don't think that is why you get thumbs down. Some people are just trolling. Some people just don't like you. They dislike you without cause. Many of your responses are not clear to the reader. In some cases you have developed a group of followers. They look for your answers just to give you a thumbs down. Many of us regulars have this type of followers.

Also in quite of few of your responses you mention westerners in a negative manner. People find that offensive.

I expect the cowards to give me me thumbs down. I'm shocked and sort of disappointed if they don't...lol

    Edit:

I agree with J that you might have helped the asker. Who cares if people gives a thumbs down. It will not change the truth.

I dislike your use of the word 'hesitation.' One should not train oneself to hesitate. Technique and control are the key elements that the original asker is probably lacking. You're right, we cannot teach over the web. The student with the original question needs to deal with the situation in class, with the instructor.

You are sweating 2 thumbs down? Are you kidding? There are trolls who latch on to you and deliberately go through your answers and give thumbs down because they have some sort of issues. Some trolls have more than one Y/A account to do this with. Had you gotten more than 5 thumbs down I would worry but two?

There are times no matter what I answer it will get thumbs down. Sometimes it is the same answer like everybody else yet mine is the only one with the thumbs down.

    Go figure.

People do things quickly because they are inexperienced and they do not know that you can learn soo much more by doing things slowly. The slower you practice the techniques, the faster it comes to you when you apply it. When you practice techniques fast, you miss a LOT of important details.

P.S. sorry, I'm kinda busy so I didn't read the whole thing.

I go for 100% speed with proper technique and power will come from that and it also helps conserve energy.
