The Christians

It was apparent to me that it was the philosophy, primitive morals and beliefs of an ancient culture, not that of an enlightened, all-knowing entity. The many flaws revealed it to be ancient men trying to make sense of their world and natural phenomenon with superstitions, folklore and oral tradition that was later recorded.
Examples: sexism, condoned murder, conditions of rape, impossible feats that defy science, explanations for natural phenomenon and descriptions that is false. Upon reading the Bible I realized this was nothing more than the words of primitive men, that paralleled other ancient myth/folklore.

While I had many reasons to doubt, I still believed anyway until a Sunday School discussion about grace and the requirements to get into Heaven. To punish people for being born in the wrong religion or for merely being skeptical seems unjustifiably evil, and even if God was real I couldn't worship or respect him if this were the case.

The fact that, like all other religions, it's ancient ignorant superstitious nonsense without a shred of supporting evidence, and with a great deal of evidence showing much of it false.
Peace.

I'm not necessarily turned off by christianity - I just don't see any compelling reasons to believe in any of it.

Nothing. It's just not for me. Except now, other Christians really turn me off of Christianity.

Nothing. Been a Christian for 20 yrs. now. Like anything worthwhile in life, living the Christian life has it's challenges. The key to success is spending time with God in prayer, bible reading and Church attendance. Anyone who doesn't practice these things daily is not going to make it long as a Christian before getting discouraged.
Another problem is that people allow little things dog their steps. For example, if someone mistreats them in the Church. I've had people mistreat me in Church and I've seen people who call themselves Christians do awful things, but that doesn't mean God doesn't exist or that God approved of what they did.

The fact it is just one branch of the mythology of the ancient Middle East and that it is taken much too seriously by far too many of my countrymen. That it is used as an excuse for adults to believe in magic doesn't help, nor their propensity to try to force their magical beliefs into the public sphere.

The fact that the Bible and doctrine fall apart under close scrutiny and accurate history proves that the religion was entirely man-made.
