Redness around navel piercing still after 8 months? Is this normal? (Pics)?

I've had my navel pierced for about 8 months now, and I'm a little worried it's migrating/rejecting. There's been redness around it since maybe a week after I first got it, and sometimes some white or clear crusties which I know are supposed to be normal. Another concern of mine is that it's not deep enough? I'm not sure if it's normal, but it looks pretty shallow, but that could just be because I'm small. It was pierced with PTFE and I've never taken it out, I've only changed one of the balls at one point, but that caused no stress or irritation to the piercing. Also, I was wondering if this was because the bar I have is so long? Should I cut it down shorter so it fits better, and will that help the redness in any way? Here's some pictures: (please note I'm very pale so the redness stands out on me more, so it's not as red as it looks in the pic, just the contrast of my camera :S, but it is still quite red)

Wow! In all honesty, I would just take it out, let it heal, and have it re-pierced. It's WAY too shallow and will, given time, reject due to the weight of the jewelry. The length of the jewelry is not a factor, it's the depth of the piercing. Cutting the bar will take away the threading so the ball won't screw on :P Your other option is to use a short plastic curved barbell, as it is much lighter. It will still likely reject, but it will take much longer to do so.

If you go the re-piercing route, I'd suggest first buying emu (the best!) or tea tree oil. Both will help break down and prevent scar tissue, making it easier to re-pierce down the road. Massage the oil into the piercing at least 3 times a day while it's healing.

If you keep it in, plastic or silicone jewelry are your best bets because they are light. Make sure to buy SHORT curved barbells as they will fit better. And if you notice the hole looking bigger or a small line behind the hole, take the jewelry out and let it close up (using one of the oils) as either means it is DEFINITELY rejecting.

Regardless of how thin you are, the piercer should have gotten more flesh into that piercing. That shallow has no chance of lasting.

Source(s): Belly button pierced twice... First was too shallow, second rejected.

I don't know, I just compared it with mine and it looks fine. Mine didn't heal for atleast a year after I got it. 8 months in, I'm pretty sure it still bled when it was irritated too much. I was actually considering taking it out because it was so long after I've gotten it done and it would still hurt me. I've had mine for almost 3 years now.

If you're still unsure about it, go back to where you got it done and ask the piercer.
