It's a real group but he may have been recently deleted. It shows up in the adult directory, but when you click on it, there's no group. Probably deleted due to sending invites to unknown people and adding people. The above looks like the auto you get when someone added your e-mail. Only way to know for sure is by looking at the mail header.

How can I prevent moderators from adding me to their groups or sending me invitations?

On the Email Preferences page, it depends on what one will see to the left. I have a few e-mail addresses, others may only have one. There are 7 columns, the first to the left being E-mail Addresses, the last on the right is Options and under that heading is the 'edit' <-- click that edit. The next page first item is Group Invitations, you will want those 2 boxes unchecked- click save changes.

I received that same email and also did not sign up for it. I searched to find info about it and wound up at your post here. Sorry I can't help more, but wanted to let you know you weren't the only one getting this.
