What happened to comments on Yahoo?

Why are we no longer allowed to comment on any story more serious than 'Gummi bear breast implants' on the Yahoo news homepage?

I used to come to Yahoo to read the news purely because the site offered the ability to comment on the largest variety and amount of stories. Now we can comment on maybe 2% as opposed to 80% of the news articles.

Oh yeah and I went to the help page to try and contact Yahoo over this annoyance and found that the only thing I can contact them about is comment abuse. Of which there is now none because no one can comment on the interesting stories.

Please someone tell me why this... I'm so irked.

I heard Yahoo's article comments have been experiencing technical difficulties. Last I heard, they were still working on it.
