there is no advantage at all, unless you wish to play MMA. As a sport it is demanding and difficult. As a means of protection, it is missing much. If you seek a good hard and demanding sport go for MMA for sure. If protection is what you seek, find a place that teaches defence. I think you should re3ad this too:
When you decide to begin training in martial art you have some questions you have to answer for yourself. Are you looking for a sport to play, an art to dedicate a lifetime to, or a quick fix method of self defence? Some combination of that perhaps? Most of us are, or were all three at times. Where do your priorities lie? You must first decide martial art , or fighting sport. The two are worlds apart, although they overlap in several areas, their mindset, and intent are opposite. You have to know also what is available to you. If you have Uechi-Ryu, and Bak Mei in your area, wanting to do TKD would not help you. Of the available options you must decide which one(s) interest you. Then you have to decide (take your time, it's important) which available instruction is the one for you. You can change or quit if you don't like it, but better to stay with the program right through (providing the program is a good one) for the best training. Style-hopping has in my experience cost many a martial artist their potential, so choose wisely, nobody here can tell you what to do for you. So do your homework well. Talk to instructors and students, watch classes, take 'free introductory' classes, make your decision. One more thing, good luck!

Do you want to learn a sport or a martial art? If you want to learn a sport and compete in MMA matches then you would be better served by taking something that concentrates on that and covers all of the rules in place for the venue in which you will be competing in.
Now despite what some arm chair warriors say. MMA classes are typically less rounded for self defense than a good traditional style school. ALL traditional self defense arts like the various styles karate, kung fu and even traditional Tae Kwon Do teach all ranges of fighting. That includes striking with both hands and feet as well as elbows and knees, standing grappling and ground grappling. throws, joint manipulations, as well as strikes to non sporting targets like the eyes throat groin, and joints. Do they all teach all of these things in the same order? NO Do they a ll place the emphasis of training in the same places? NO But they do all eventually teach these things if it is a good class taught for self defense and not sport.

Just believing your desire to safeguard yourself and your loved ones will do is just a really silly blunder which will get you killed. You'll need real-life abilities and you need to know just what direction to go when instantly confronted with chance and for this you will need this system of Bruce Perry, Patriot Self Defense , an application that you will discover here https://tr.im/JFRx2
With the studio quality videos and extensive instructions, you will receive a hit zone place that sits out every prone spot on the human body allow it to attract away any confusion as to which ones go the most damage and in merely a really small amount of time, you will be 100% comfortable about just how to destroy every possible risk of violence before it comes within spitting range of you or your family!

mma is inferior in effectiveness to a dedicated style. Really, MMA is just a marketing gimmick. You are going to be a better fighter if you learn one style truly well, rather than a jumble of techniques drawn from various styles.

If you are wanting to learn really basic stuff, like if someone pushes you at your college, and you want to punch em, learn Karate. If you want to go into competitions, learn kickboxing. If you might get mugged by 2 guys that have 5 inches and 40 pounds on you, and one of them has a knife, learn MMA.
