I want to buy a lap top?
I want to buy a lap top but have NO idea what to look for. I don't do any sort of gaming. I do stuff with pictures, but no major editing program or anything like that. I am a basic boring user. I like to keep some pics on my computer. But I don't need music or anything like that. I don't want something huge and I don't really want a mini computer either because from what I've seen they run slow and I don't have all that patience.. I know nothing about computers. I am also wondering what price range I would be looking at? It's probably going to be for home use and for when I travel.

Well the price range for this is quite huge...
If you travel alot and want lightweight/portable, want a computer that isnt slow, you will likely be wanting a ultrabook (windows versions of macbook air) they are usually less then an inch thick at the largest area. The only problem is they are VERY expensive. The cheapest ones are around $800.
here is an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
If you arnt looking to spend that much, then id look into the 14" laptops. They have all the specs of normal 15.6" laptops, but are smaller and usually have better battery life. (again are little more on expensive side usually looking at $500-800 for one of these)

Really for normal use you dont need more then a 2nd gen core i3 and 4gb of ram, and you wouldnt need any dedicated graphics card.

You need to answer these questions to yourself:
1) How long do you want to run off battery? If traveling a lot, long battery life is a high priority. Smaller Netbooks can provide 6-8 hours of continuous use. Larger laptops may give 2-3 hours only.
2) How much storage? A lot of pictures can use up a lot of disk space. Get the largest drive you can in that case.
3) Wireless - make sure the wireless in the laptop has G/N modes (most do now). Better wireless has "dual band" wireless, which is better in the long run.
4) Size/weight? If traveling, lighter is better usually. On the opposite side, smaller has smaller screens, and may no suit what you want to look at.
Almost all modern laptops (bigger machines) and netbooks (smaller machines) have benefits and disadvantages. You need to address what features you want. Any modern machine will be somewhat fast if you look after it and maintain the system.
Always, always, buy an external storage device (like USB disk) to back up your data.

It looks like all you really need is as you stated, a simple computer. Just make sure that it has at least 4 gb of ram, and at least 350 gb hard drive. I don't suggest you save anything on the computers hard drive, because if it crashes, you may lose everything. Best thing to do, is to have an external hard drive, or a flash drive, for all your important files. If you choose, you can save files on the computer HD, But always back them up on an external HD or a flash drive.
Good luck.
