Is it really that hard to accept that death is probably the end?

I mean, jeez, it's not like you've always existed. Do you have any memories from before you were born? I'm pretty sure being dead will be just like that. Same as every other animal on the planet, we're born and we die. We don't go on forever in either direction.

Doesn't that seem just a little more realistic than thinking there's some central cosmic intelligence who loves us and is going to take care of us forever and ever? That sounds really far fetched to me.

Religion survives based on comfort, it's nice to believe that we all matter in the grand scale of things and that we will live forever because a God cares for each and every one of us. Other animals don't think about things like this, it has never bothered any species before humans. As soon as we evolved brains, we evolved egos. We all have egos, we all put ourselves at the centre of the universe sometimes, now we are alive we can't imagine not being alive, and how could we? We never really experienced not being alive. It's the complete unknown, being alive is all that we know, how can we imagine being dead? *EDIT* I see a lot of Pascal's Wager (If I (the atheist) am right then I'm just dead, nothing happens, if I'm wrong I go to hell, if you (the believer) are right then you go to heaven, if your wrong, you just die, so what? So it's better to believe). Only problem with that is that you can't force someone to believe in something that they just can't, so even if we conform and "serve God" we will still go to hell because we never truly believed, right? You're not telling me your God can easily be tricked are you?

It actually is hard. Think about someone who actually believed, for years, that when they die they are going to go to an eternal paradise. It'd be hard to get over. Many people people who had feared hell often have a much better time accepting the end at death.

If you believe in God, you'll go to heaven. It's as simple as that. God for so loved the world that he gave his only son. So that he whosoever believeth shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Some people don't believe in god, and say I'm wrong. But what if they are right, nothing happens, so what? But what if I'm right? They're going to hell to perish for eternity. Either you believe in God, or accept the consequences.

I always try to think of it like this: if I’m right, I am eternal happy, if I’m wrong I no longer exist. However if I believe death is death then: if I’m right I’m just dead if I’m wrong, well it might get really hot down there lol

"I died as a mineral and became a plant,

I died as a plant and rose to an animal.

I died as an animal and I was human.

Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?"

Physical death is only the beginning. You better awaken to truth while you still can.
