is it normal for 9 month olds to go 12-16 hours without sleep, just like adults?

my baby like NEVER takes naps. this can't be healthy can it? i mean, he sleeps okay at night, averaging about 8 hours, but damnit what can i do to make him sleep already? he's driving me positively insane because he has more energy than i do! and all he does is go around touching every thing and knocking stuff to the floor and he's just on super HIGH energy level all day and it's wearing me out because i can't get anything done. does anybody recommend anything to slow his speed down some? or a way of coping?

What's he eating? Too much sugar and caffeine in your diet if he's breastfeeding can cause him not to sleep much. Of course, too much sugar in HIS diet can do the same thing.

Try taking him for walks and to the park now that the weather's nice. This will help wear him out AND give you a little break from chasing him around the house. You can also buy a play yard for him and put it just outside your window on nice days, so that he can play safely and you can keep an eye on him while you go about doing housework.

As for the napping thing, talk to his doctor. Generally, a nine month old needs about 13 hours of sleep per day, including 9-10 hours at night and two naps. But all babies are different, and yours just may not need as much.

Sleep is an important part in growing, healing, and getting smarter (this is when they store their information learned during the day) for children. It's important that he is getting at least the recommended sleep amounts for his age. 9-12 month babies should be getting a least14 hours of sleep - two hour nap and a 12 hour sleep at night.

Make sure he isn't getting any sugar. That means no juice if you are giving him any. He should be primarily drinking formula and occasionally eating some veggie purées. Try getting him to use that energy through playing. Take him for walks and play at the park.

Keep up with a very strict bedtime routine. Set a bedtime, a pajama time, a bath time, and a calm down time to do quiet things.

All this together should help. Start this now or bed time might always be a problem. I often see children who are clearly sleep deprived just becuase their parents didn't start a bed time routine earlier on.

it can be normal or it could be a phase, try giving him warmed milk to get him down if its tried and doesnt work then a play pen or enclosed ball pit may work you could also use a sling or keep baby in high chair next to you while you cook for short bursts. my daughter went through this at 7 months but went back to day time napping after 2 weeks and she still naps at 16 months which im thankful for now that im pregnant again lol

lol its part of being a mom! my daughter was the same way....even now at 6 yearts old. Back then i would put her in her play pen or block off a room with baby gates and let her play while i did my housework.
