I have a legit question about wrestling (not trolling)?

Keep in mind I have lots of respect for the WWE wrestlers and Im not trolling

Now I used to be a WWE fan awhile back and now im a diehard UFC fan. I started to watch a few episodes of Monday night Raw after hearing about Brock Lesnar coming back. The reason why Brock came back was because he quit the UFC after losing his heavyweight championship and then getting absolutly demolished by this guy Alistair Overeem in his next match. So he comes back to the WWE and now they are setting him out to be this indestructible force that just cant be stopped.

So my question is how can you view these guys as badasses if they cant really fight? I mean with the growing popularity of the UFC, how can you still watch wrestling knowing that that isnt how guys actually fight? I know they're entertaining and they work very hard to perfect their art, but at the end of the day, this little guy - http://cdn0.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/277252... would destroy this big guy http://0.tqn.com/d/prowrestling/1/0/_/5/-/-/undert... in an actual fight. And to me the fact that the UFC is actually real, it makes it 1000x more entertaining because you truly have no idea whats going to happen

Update:

@Kevin, True, but i think the outcome would have been the same had he not been on PEDs

Most WWE fans don't watch UFC and don't really care what happens in that "league". What Lesnar did in UFC doesn't matter to WWE fans. The WWE doesn't try to hide that Lesnar was in UFC but they also don't advertise it.

Sure, the WWE is "fake", but most fans are willing to play along with the characters and storylines (to be entertained) if they are believable enough. Lesnar looks like a monster, like he could kill a grizzly bear barehanded, meaning he looks the part of a badass who can rip apart anybody who gets in the ring with him. He's presented that way, and acts the part. He's believable in that role. So, WWE fans are willing to accept him as the badass the WWE wants us to believe he is. If Lesnar was 5 inches shorter and 60 pounds lighter, it wouldn't work.

WWE fans know the "wrestling" matches are staged but watch them anyway the same way people watch movies. Those are staged, too, but can be very entertaining if you allow yourself to "believe" they are real and the actors are real people, and not just pretending, playing characters in the movie. You have to suspend your disbelief or the WWE doesn't work at all; same for movies. The vast majority of WWE fans are willing to suspend their disbelief to be entertained by the drama and the action in the ring, and the colorful characters.

  • Just because you lose a fight, doesn't mean you suck. I mean plenty of things could have affected the outcome. & Brock was planning on leaving UFC either way.

& Jusyt because that guy is little, doesn't mean he can't fight. I'm little & i've faught & won guys much bigger than me.

Wrestling isn't an actual "Sport" like UFC. It's a performance, Kind of like going to a theater to see a play, only with lots more merchandising and people hitting each other with chairs. They're not badasses, they just play them on TV.

So, the answer to your question is, it's not the wrestlers themselves that are viewed as badasses, but their gimmicks. If people can view Dirty Harry, King Leonidas, or Batman as badass, why not Stone Cold Steve Austin?

in WWE, Its acting, but they really do get hurt. Try getting slammed with a chair. Either way, its not fun. I like WWE and UFC. I just wish UFC had tag teams.

Jose Aldo is a badass. That comes with the turf. Black belt in BJJ so there's that. However, I still kind of believe that The Undertaker is a tough guy in real life. At least I wouldn't want to get into a fight with him. Even with his weird execution of the gogoplata. Though that's here nor there. Anyway, the bodybuilders for the most part would get owned in MMA. And even those like Kurt Angle with a wrestling background would probably get owned in MMA. Chuck Liddell is not as phenomenal a wrestler as Kurt Angle, but the key is not going to the ground. The key is in Liddell's really powerful right fist. Wrestlers are fighters if they can get you to ground, assuming they have a background in amateur wrestling. Lesnar, Angle, those two come to mind most specifically. The guys like Ryback who are basically just bodybuilders can't fight. Can't wrestle. Can't anything. They're also usually in horrible shape. If you look like you just came from a bodybuilding contest, you're probably starving yourself to get that kind of physique. Obviously a disadvantage in a fight.

But then there are the guys like Daniel Bryan. He'll legitimately kick someone's *** in a plethora of ways. If he gets you on the ground and applies full force on the Yes! Lock then he's cutting off oxygen flow. He also has Jujutsu experience, so he's familiar with striking.

Lastly, William Regal and I suppose I could group Wade Barrett in this as well. Wade Barrett before coming to WWE was a bare-knuckle boxer quite some time ago. So if he stiffs that's why. William Regal is known for his stiffing, but I'm not familiar with his past, so I can only speculate. But I'm assuming he'd manage in a legit fight as fell. Maybe not UFC but just your average street brawl.

So I guess some can fight. Others can't.

Wrestling is more about acting than fighting.
