Why is my Impala making a knocking/cracking noise every time i turn the steering wheel?

happened today...I'm no mechanic, but I'm thinking it's the ball joint?

Anyone want to give some input?

Update:

no noise if driving 'straight'.

However if I turn the wheel at all (while driving) i'm hearing a cracking and a knocking noise (including in a parked position).

To my knowledge, my car hasn't had any aftermarket front end parts put on it (with the exception of rotars and brakes) I bought it from a dealership 4 years ago. It was used (dealership rental car) and had 64,000 km on it. I've had it very well maintained ever since.

I've already check P/S levels. I'm not stun.

the different solutions solutions are effective and accessible reasons. a normal situation interior the 2000-2005 Impala is the rack and pinion (it controls the flexibility steerage). The rack and pinion looses grease inflicting a popping sound each time you change the wheel. Any mechanic would be responsive to what you're speaking approximately. stable luck.

The noise your hearing is from the steering shaft that runs through the steering column. This is a common problem on the chevrolet impalas. Please call your local chevrolet dealers service dept and tell this about this problem. There is also a factory bulletin on this problem that will have them install a special grease to this shaft or replace this shaft if its worn to the point it needs replaced.Best of luck.

If I had to take a guess I would say its your CV joints they tend to ware out faster than ball joints.
