I have an abstract abortion question?

If we went into a time machine and aborted Hitler, Bin Laden, Stalin, Pol Pot, Sadaam Hussien and other mass murderers is that a good thing or bad thing?

Is that murder or is it actually saving lives?

There's an ethical theory called "utilitarianism."

Essentially, it says it is okay to commit something that would - by itself - be immoral, if what it achieves benefits the rest of society.

In layman's terms: kill one, save a thousand.

Personally, I adhere to utilitarianism because I believe if you want to be a member of society, your actions should help other members of society, and you should put your own convictions aside if they stand in the way.

Just FYI, its opposite is called "deontologicalism."

It's still murder, the ends doesn't justify the means.

Also even if we could go back in time one small action will alter history and possibly make things worse now.

Same with "health care". How many of those people that we save the lives of are bad people? Is it really that great that so many poor people are poor to get out of paying child support? How many are poor and uninsured because if they get a job they will be arrested because they have warrants out after them? They can get health care in jail but they don't want to go.

Every human has a chance, and another human may not take anothers life.

Yeah, maybe it would have saved millions of Jews,etc....but it's not your choice to end anothers life b/c they might make a decision to kill millions.......

It is murder no matter what....

It would not have made any difference, because most tyrants are actually chosen by the people to lead them.

If those individuals had not been available, the people would have just found some other psychotic madman to lead them.

There are plenty of those around - just look at any left wing rally.

It wouldn't really save lives because there would be many other crazy people that would take their places. Hitler had a ton of followers that thought the same way he did :/

That's one option. We could also have let them live and changed the environment they lived in to change their actions.

Option one would guarantee that millions of lives would be saved, though.

It's murder of one person, but it's saving the lives of millions of others, so I'd call it justified. Just as Obama went in to kill bin Laden without Pakistani permission.
