Then it says, "He is before all things". Simply, this means He IS ruler over everything, in other words He is omnipotent, another description of God.

In any event, the last bit is the most interesting, "In Him all things consist" meaning everything (the entire universe) is held together by God. This would mean that He IS in control of everything.

So far we have described God as being creator, ruler and controller of everything (the universe).

If you were seeking physical descriptions, the Bible doesn't directly describe God the Father. Isaiah recognized God to be so Holy, he only describes that the train of his robe filled the Temple (Is. 6:1), angels cover their faces in the presence of God (Is. 6:2-3), Moses was instructed to not look upon the face, and he only saw God's glory (Exo. 33:18-23).

Paul States in 2 Cor 12:

What Paul saw was so astounding he would not dare speak about whatever he saw.

My simple belief: God is a metaphor for that which transcends all levels of intellectual thought.

Regardless of what he is, someone would have had to create him, so it makes no sense when people say he was always existing

A deity is a being that can violate the laws of nature and physics.
