Who really dies at the time of death. If our karma our desires, our ego, our energies all survive the death what else dies at the time of death besides the physical body?

The gross individual dies, but his subtle individuality which is embedded in his soul does not die. The body is of two types, although understood as one. One is our gross body which disintegrates at death. The other is the subtle body which disintegrates only at the time of moksha.

The soul resides in both these bodies. The soul is like a seed, it is a continuum of the past lives. It contains everything in a very subtle form; thoughts, feelings, desires, vibrations etc. When the physical body dies, the soul withdraws itself totally into the subtle body from the gross. Here it remains in a state which is incomprehensible for humans beings. This is because we can understand certain things only with the reference to time and gravity.

Yoga in its depth, deals with the subtle body. That is why a Yogi understands everything about tanmatras and physiological siddhis possible with the help of the subtle body. Tantra goes beyond the subtle body and yoga. A yogi is familiar with the subtle body while a tantric is familiar with that which is beyond the subtle body. But all the soul experiences and understanding of it can occur only at samadhi. Many Upanishads talk about the soul. It is written by great sages who could go beyond and get a glimpse of what it is beyond the realms of the physical body.

At death what dies is our sensual ability to relate to physical things. Everything becomes crystal clear and we are able to see reality as it really is. Our physical body is the mode in which we interact with physical things but our real self is our spirit.

it is a good question. what else dies? awareness, identity, suffering, all emotions, life, our power source, cells, the seed of our future generation. the only things that seems to die here are the symptoms of a vehicle. one which we use navigate our physical realm. our armor dies not our essence which i presume by the law of alchemy cant die, only leave the body or change form.

until the LIBERATION from the birth cycle every thing keep in actions with the SOUL (manah chiti budhhi aham). so only the death you talking about is just for the body or taking the other form according to your karma.

yes by the grace of GOD and your love towards the LIBERATION IN LIVING TIME (JEEVAN MUKTI) is helping to kill the cycle of the death with all these mentioned including your body.

that is the final goal of life to achieve. thanks for having me as your contact and i am really glad to have you mine. thanks.

    Senthil r, good question.

It is simply amazing what people believe without a second thought or investigation, oh well, it gives me an opportunity to express my two fevered answers. The description is not the described and something new cannot come from something old. Awareness tucked away in the container of consciousness is the only eternal aspect in the relative field of existence. Upon the death of body, mind, consciousness only the dewdrop of awareness in consciousness transcends the physical aspects of existence and merges back with cosmic awareness in the ocean of consciousness in the absolute none changing field of Being. Created karma stops and records in the Akashic records. (All inclusive) If one steps outside of the influence of karma by seeing the identity of the false idea of ego has no existence one is freed from reincarnation. When the doer of the false ego is gone all action (karma) has no place to return and stops. Total Bliss is without description but can be experienced and its qualities of peace love and harmony will be played out in one’s life with repeated experiencing. For the new to happen the old programmed identity must die unto itself. In the debit of karma all will remain in suffering. Take a look-see. I quote from the ancient seers (Rishi), “Awake thou that sleep”.

It is the gross body consisting of physical body alone dies, the subtle body consisting of mind and intellect with all its sanskaras/lineage survives

Gen.3:19, from dust thour art and to dust thou shalt return.

Eccl. 11:5; from birth the life of the soul is the spirit from

God. Eccl.12:7; at death the spirit returns to God who

    gave it.

As with Jesus, Luke 23:46; so he was resurrected, Matt.

27:52,53, the spirit of God strong enough that nearby

saints were also resurrected, as Elisha buried with so

    much of God;s spirit still there, 2Ki.13:20,21;

Then there is the resurrection: Psm.104:29 Thou hidest

thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath,

they die, and return to their dust. 104:30 Thou sendest

forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the

    face of the earth.

So as Adam was came forth, so can his offsprings, to

a life without sin in them. 1Cor.15:22-28,51-53.

    I think,

mind, desires and the ego die along with the physical body

and the energy of consciousness of the being

along with the mystical imprints of karma

    survives after the death.
