Does this year feel like an alternate reality ?

Detroit eliminated first and by Nashville... Boston, Vancouver, San Jose, Chicago, Pittsburgh on the brink of elimination.

L.A., St. Louis, Phoenix, Washington looking to advance... not to mention if New Jersey or the Rangers don't turn it around, they too could be looking to be on the brink of elimination by Florida and Ottawa.

All the past Titans of recent years are gone or facing elimination, and all the teams that were typically made fun of are looking to advance.

Yeah it does. Watching the New York game, and they pointed out that Florida could soon be the number one seed in the East, and it's not much better in the West.

But hey, that's why we play the playoffs, right?

Well not really, but I know what you mean.

That's the cycle of sports, it is rare that a dynasty maintains itself, and most franchises go through periods of losing before they return to winning.

I always admired the Red Wings for their consistency, but players get old and have to make way for replacements and the Yzermans of the world don't come along every draft. Zetty and Liddy are older and less effective while other teams are on their upswings like St. Louis for example because of a new coach and players buying into his system.
