What does Proverbs 3:5-6 mean? What does it mean not to lean unto thine own understanding?

Proverbs 3:5

5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

What do these two scriptures mean?

God's ways are not our ways. We may not always understand why He does what He does and that's ok. We need to trust in Him alone. Not in our own understanding.

    5) Trust in God/YHWH with all your heart and do not rely solely on your own understanding.

    6) In everything you do and say acknowledge YHWH, and he will lead you down the right paths in life.

    Hope this helped.

(Proverbs 3:5, 6) Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. 6 In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight.

It means to take your standards from scripture...

(Matthew 22:36-40) “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”

So all the basics set out in Psalms and Proverbs were not altered by Jesus, just simplified...

Sacrifice was done away with...Jesus' own replaced the sacrifice of animals...

We do not think and act like God does. So we do not know what is best for us, but God does. Just as a child does not know what is best for Him, but his dad does. God also said that our heart is deceitful above all things. (Jeremiah 17:9) So therefore, instead of trusting ourselves, we should allow God to control our lives. Since He knows what is best, and because He has a plan for each of us.

we are to trust God's wisdom and not our own. He is bigger than us. so His ways r not our ways. if we lean on Him for His guidance we are doing the right thing. Everything happens for a reason and He sees the bigger picture, one that we always can't. He makes everything work out for the greater good. even if u don't feel like it sometimes. i'm so glad ur trying to learn and understand. the bad things that happen to us happen to make us better people, it builds our character and teaches us to truly trust God and learn that He is ALL we need! He wants u to talk to Him about eveything - heartache, dispare, guilt, shame, and all the good stuff too. i hope this helps and i wish u the best!

    5. If you have to decide whether to believe Man's or God, always tend to Him. He can't lie.

    6. He is the One who invented SCIENCE, He used it to build the Universe. All TRUE science is in agreement with His Laws. Obey what He suggests or commands. You always be Ok.

It means to not think for yourself. Just blindly follow whatever the bible says. Just ignore all the contradictions.
