Up- and downloading to/from a FTP-server.?

A printing business I work with has a FTP-server so that clients can upload or download to/from it. Unfortunately I found that I can do neither. However, I have the necessary user name and password and I CAN open the server and open the file(s) that are for me, but they will only show on the monitor. They can not be downloaded. Neither can I upload files I want the printing business to have.

Is this a Windows7 problem, or can it be some other (simpler) problem that can be solved? If so, please enlighten me!

You ask the business IT staff for help since we have NO IDEA how they have set up their system ..

FYI MOST FTP systems use a 'secure' up/download program such as WS_FTP Pro ... the IT guys SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED YOU with a Licensed copy if that's what they use ..

FTP problems are never easy to solve.

Try ftp.exe from the command line

    start run cmd

    ftp

    open your_ftp

(you will be prompt for username and password)

If that works, set your FTP client to use active mode.
