Heavy Drinker (only beer), then suddenly/abruptly stop after 20+ years?
If a person drinks beer rather heavily (8 to 12 - 10oz beers each and every day) for a period of over 20 years, what would be the expected detoxification symptoms/problems that person would encounter?

If you are physically addicted to alcohol (only beer counts too)
you will have withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking suddenly.
If you normally drink every day and you go a long time without taking a drink
you might start to shake, sweat hot and cold -- like getting a flu
if that starts to happen it's best to get medical help
and go through the detox in medically surpervised setting
the reason being that you body can go into shock (or seizure)
from getting cut of the booze like that cold turkey.
If you are planning to stop drinking
call the Alcoholics Anonymous Office in your area....
they should be listed in your phone book
they will give you more information about detox and what to expect
and info about detox centres- if you need more help
they will arrange to have an AA member call and talk to you or come see you
hope this helps and you do get the help you want
good luck
