If the files are not too extensive, I would use a "thumb drive" also called a memory stick. You get buy an 8 gigabyte stick for under ten dollars. Insert the memory stick in a usb port and double click on the icon when it appears. If none appears click on my computer in the startup menu, then double click on the memory stick in the window. It might be called a removable drive. This should give a new window that shows the contents of the drive. Now you can "drag and drop" your files if they are visible on your desktop display. Drag and drop means you put the cursor on the file icon, press down and hold the left clicker, and then drag the file where you want it before releasing the left clicker. The files will copy to the drive. Now insert the drive in the new computer, double click on the icon and it should display your files in the contents window. Drag and drop the files on your desktop and you are done.

Source(s): If your previous computer is too old then it has ide hard disk. And mostly newer has sata. So hard will not connect internaly. Use ide to sata converter for that. And connect throug usp. You can buy that converter on market.
