I'm purchasing an 88 Ford e350 van 7.3 litter IDI Diesel & 85 Chevy Blazer M1009 from a county's EMA facility?

I have researched the Vans 7.3 diesel engine and it sounds like a great one.. Though it was mostly found in F-250 and 350's (88-94) then they changed to power stroke.. The Van has 132,000 miles...

The Chevy Blazer is also diesel and is 24 volt (which is bad from what I have read) it has 90,000 thousand miles.. Both vehicles where running fine when they were retired last year.. I would imagine the government has mechanics with lots of time on there hands and that the city would or EMA would have taken better care of these vehicles than the average driver.. They just hit an age and are retired to a field to be sold a year or so later or when new vehicles arrive.. Am curious if anyone else has bought vehicles in a similar situation. I pick them up this weekend.. I have a good feeling about it as the purpose behind buying these vehicles is for the betterment of others.

Nothing wrong with the M1009, only problem with the 24V system is that it's not "normal" so when things go wrong it's a bit of a hassle for parts.

The 6.2L diesel is gutless, but obviously a good motor, they used them even in HMMWV's and there are plenty of them still running around with that motor, even though the 6.5L replaced it a long time ago.

Mileage is pretty decent on them too. They certainly aren't a beefy truck, they are no better or worse than the civilian version.

Typically maintained well, but need to be inspected before being bid on/purchased, as sometimes they will be used to steal parts from to keep other vehicles running.
