how can you get rid of nightmares or at least become in control with them?
my boyfriend has terrible nightmares nights on end, at least one everynight. he doesnt talk to me about them, but whenever i do hear about them they terrify him. they seem to take his fears and turn them into horrible and messed up dreams. im just curious how i could possibly help him get rid of these nightmares, or atleast tame them so they arent so drastic, and so they dont scare him so bad. because he's one of the strongest guys i know and i hate how much these scare him.

As the other poster noted, dreams are often based in reality and might well represent a problem that needs to be worked on consciously. However, what you are describing seems to go beyond that level. I would suggest that your boyfriend try to control some of his normal dreams, that is direct them in the way he wishes them to go. If he is able to do that, then he should be able to gain control of his nightmares, and make them less frightening or perhaps even comical. This is a skill that can be learned by many people, one that merely takes time and effort to do. The easiest starting point would probably be to consciously plan on controlling any dreams that come during sleep prior to actually falling asleep.
