I know I can imessage by using a persons e-mail, but can I message someone from my ipod touch using their iphone number?
never mind i can send texts to phone numbers and it works just fine from my ipod

You can only send to another apple (Version 5.0 or later) device Like Iphone or ipad or even another ipod touch.If you know the persons apple account email just send it to that.
