How long should you spend on the tredmill for a work out?

I want to start working out, just starting out with the tredmill every day and eating healthier.

I have some knee problems also.

So how much time should you spend on the tredmill to make it worth while to actually be burning calories?

    If you have knee problems, you have absolutely NO business using the treadmill. Running on the treadmill is one of the most inefficient, ineffective exercises ever. In 9 months of going to the gym, I have never, ever used it. You're better off using the stationary bike, and doing moderate weight lifting.
