Need help with Door Lock?

I'm really stupid, sorry.

I have a mortice lock on my bathroom door. I am trying to replace it but the new Mortice lock does not make sense. Here is the issue

The Handle is on top with the keyhole on the bottom. When I put the lock in place the non-beveled edge of the barrel faces the strike plate (meaning you would have to actually turn the handle instead of just pushing it to get it to shut.

However if I flip it over so the beveled edge contacts the strike plate first, then the door handle is on bottom with keyhole on top and it doesn't match the holes in the door.

It would seem to work correctly on a door that was facing the opposite direction like my bedroom. For description sakes my Bedroom door faces West and the lock would fit but my bathroom door faces East which makes the lock backwards.

Yes, I am stupid........Please help

Depending on the quality/brand of the new lock you bought, there should be a lever or clip to swivel the latch to face the other side.

If it doesnt, the lock is only meant for a specific side hung door. now to find out what side your door is hung from, close the door and stand on the side where you can see the hinges. if you see the pivots of the hinges on the left of the door, its left side hung. if they are on the right, its a right side hung door.

Now check the box/instructions of the lock to find out whether it is adjustable or not. If not, you at least know what kind of lock you need for the type of door you have.

    Good Luck

Lock Trader is an online retailer for all your lock and security needs, contact them. Their experts will be more than happy to help you with the most effective solution to your problem. If replacing the lock with a new one fits in your budget then get it replaced, that would be the best option.

There should be a way to reverse the beveled edge so it will operate correctly. You may have to remove it from the rest of the lock and re-install.
