What happened to my mother?

My mother, a terminal patient, was admitted to the hospital and when I visited her she was alert and oriented. Three days later she was transferred to a nursing home where she died two months later. Almost immediately her mind started to go. Mentally she went downhill. What happened? Was it that the metatastic cancer reached her brain? Was it the drugs they gave her? She was on morphine and other drugs to sedate her and keep her free of pain until she died.

Honestly I can't be sure but I work in a nursing home if she cam with cancer and it was in the last stage or terminal they probably had her on hospice which would explain the morphine. When someone I'll like that comes to a facility they get confused they are wearing a brief can't leave can hardly do anything for themselves and are persuaded to follow a set schedule it confuses them to the point of where they can't wrap there mind around the concept. It is depressing in that state of mind so the spiral downwards pretty rapidly especially on hospice. That is most likely what happened combined with the cancer. It's really no ones fault because she could either die in pain and not have any quality of life or die a little confused pretty content and pain free.
